Hello, Laurie Berkner. You Make Me Dance. With My Daughter. I Heart You.

It’s already been a bit of a long week for me–I’ve sort of had the stomach flu.  I say “sort of” because I’m really not sure, but my stomach felt icky and it’s not at all been much fun for me to be in my skin.  Yeah.

However, today…

I went down to the Starbucks in the Sears Tower–which is something I rarely do these days since Costco and bulk purchases of Monster Energy Drink are my new bestest friends in that department.

I got the usual:  Venti Nonfat Caramel Macchiato. Add my own 6 Splenda.

Somehow, I don’t think that “Nonfat” is really helping me much on this one.

As I waited for my tasty morning beverage, I perused the “Hear Music” section, which they play a lot of on XM Channel 75 (appropriately titled the “Starbucks Channel”) and which I also listen to when I’m not trying to catch-up on Opie and Anthony.

To my surprise and absolute joy, there was a DVD for The Laurie Berkner Band. The young-ish, “I’m just doing this gig while I’m in college” gal said, “I’ve never heard of them… They look… odd.”

The Laurie Berkner Band

I chuckled. I mean, sure, I’m 36 as I’ve said a lot since I’ve turned 36 (see?), but I still look pretty close to what I looked like back in, say… 1988 but with better hair and less acne and about 30 more pounds. I’m also a knowledgeable man when it comes to music.  Most times.

But this time, I was very knowledgeable.

I said to the gal, “Ahhh, but you would if you had a 2 year old and you watched Noggin!”.

It amused only me, much like it does now.

And now, it plays in the background on my laptop as I search all of Amazon to find all of the Laurie Berkner Band CDs so I can ship them home and throw them on the network so we can rock out to Laurie with the few simple pushes of buttons.

I am remarkably happy about all of this and it has very much made my day.

See, we do have a DVR and there have been a few times when Sydney and I have been watching Noggin and on came a Laurie Berkner Band interlude of “Bumblebee” or “Victor Vito” and we spent the entire duration of the song singing “Buzz Buzz Buzz Buzz” and jumping and dancing and bouncing around until we (me) were exhausted.  Then hit rewind and repeat.

Sydney does like to dance.  She likes to butt dance and she’s good at it.  Funny at it, too. But these are dancing with Daddy tunes and I don’t forget them, so this is just one of the single biggest benefits I could possibly find.

Tonight is the last night of teaching my Flash ActionScript class, and I can assure you that the time before it will be spent with Daddy getting all rumpled and sweaty dancing around and singing “Buzz Buzz Buzz Buzz” more than a few times.

This, my friends, is what they refer to as a slice of “The Good Life”. And sometime between 5 and 5.30 before I leave for class, life will be flippin’ great and nothing will change that.

Thanks go out to you, Laurie.

I just want you to know that i’m really enjoying the new UE…I know that you are still the same you that you were a couple of weeks ago…But now there’s a spark in your writing that lights up the page…Brings me into the story…Makes me care about what you have to say…maybe i’m just dreamin’…But i think you’ve got a much better thing going already with the new UE…all i can say is…Keep it coming.

    I’m enjoying it more, too.

But, I think that has to do with the whole “no spam” thing happening. And a clean slate feeling and a bunch of other stuff that was time to get cleaned up.

It’s like blogging again, but now there are tools out here that are really nice instead of feeling like I need to create / lean on someone to create my own.

It’s quite, quite nice. And it’s about 100 less emails per day, too!

    :-)

–As an aside, I’m not sure how this comment system works just yet, so some comments may take awhile to get approved and all that good stuff. I’ll keep learning the WP stuff–and will take any sort of comments and assistance along the way.

Especially with this whole “creating my own theme” stuff.

Dude, I love the new layout!! (and am SOOO happy not to be getting e-mail everytime someone decided to spam the hot/not lists). Good to see you’re back to bloggin’ on a semi-regular basis too.

I just wish I had found the new site sooner. Heh, maybe now I can convince the Network Nazi’s at work to remove UE from the blacklist and I can read/post from work again.
