In Need of Some WP Love
I need some assistance.
See? I’m big enough to ask for directions, honey.
Seriously.
I’m falling in love with WordPress. This new little way of blogging for me is quite refreshing compared to the clutter that used to be UE 2.0. And I liked that; don’t get me wrong.
This base template is pretty spiffy and I’m sort-of happy with it.
But I want some plug-ins.
I want some change.
I need to fix my design and I need to fix some pages (ie the Soundboards so I can get the rest of them up).
I need to understand how to “create my own template”; I can do web design and development with the best of them, so this doesn’t seem like it should be some arcane magick.
Can you help?
Will you help?
Will you still love me tomorrow?
I’m lying alone with my head on the phone, thinking of you ’til it hurts.

I wish I could help, but I’m on blogspot. I tweaked my own template on there, but have NO idea how to work the ol’ Wordpress.
I’m assuming you’ve done all the necessary googling?

I have not done much googling, to be honest.
But that’s part of what I’m looking for—some direct, easy-to-use / already tried & tested links.
Hey, I’m not exactly lazy, but if some of you are already working smarter than me, it doesn’t hurt to axe!

Well, then, how about this?

P.S.: It doesn’t appear that you are pinging blogrolling or whatever services blogrolling reads to get its updated pings. You may want to check on settings in wordpress for that… blogger lets me configure whether or not it pings certain services. I imagine WP may do the same thing.

Welcome to WP! I have a few blogs on it and I love it. Beats Blogger to holy hell. It does take some getting used to, though.
Go to Presentation and play around with the given themes (just plug it in and it does all the work for you). http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ is the direct URL.
As for the pinging, anything you want to ping every time you update, paste the URL in Options: Writing under “Update Services”. Note - the more you have in there, the longer it will take to post.
Once you get used to it, you are going to LOVE WP!! Gratz on making the switch.

I think I’m looking more for some quick’n'easy tips on modifying my layout.
I’m no slouch with the HTML, so it wouldn’t be tough, I just want to know where to start so the project doesn’t turn into… well… a project.
